TikTok Shop Is Testing a Prime-Style Membership: What “Shop Plus” Means for Sellers

TikTok Shop is testing Shop Plus, a Prime-style membership that could turn viral discovery into repeat purchases and change how sellers approach the channel.

TikTok Shop has been really good at one thing: getting people to discover products they were not necessarily looking for.

Now, it looks like TikTok wants to get much better at the part that comes after discovery: getting those shoppers to come back and buy again.

TikTok is reportedly testing a paid membership called TikTok Shop Plus for some U.S. shoppers. The program is being tested at $6, $10, and $15 per month, with benefits including free shipping, product discounts, and coupons. The details are not final, and TikTok has not publicly confirmed a broad launch.

That makes this more than another TikTok Shop promotion. It could be a sign that TikTok is trying to build something much closer to a recurring ecommerce ecosystem.

From Impulse Buy to Repeat Customer

Think about the typical TikTok Shop journey.

Someone watches a video. They see a product. The creator makes it look useful, interesting, or impossible to ignore. The shopper taps through, checks the price, and maybe buys.

That model is fantastic for generating impulse purchases.

    But subscriptions change the psychology.

Once someone is paying a monthly fee for shopping benefits, they have a reason to keep using that platform. Instead of thinking, “Should I buy this product here?”, the customer starts thinking, “I already have Shop Plus, so why not buy it here?”

That is exactly the type of behavior Amazon Prime and Walmart+ have spent years encouraging. Amazon Prime currently costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year, while Walmart+ is listed at $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Both programs use membership benefits to make the broader shopping ecosystem more valuable.

TikTok appears to be testing its own version of that playbook.

What We Know About Shop Plus So Far

The most interesting part is the pricing.

TikTok is reportedly testing three monthly price points: $6, $10, and $15. That does not necessarily mean TikTok plans to launch three permanent membership tiers. They could simply be pricing experiments designed to determine what shoppers are willing to pay.

    The reported benefits include:

    • Free shipping
    • Member-only product discounts
    • Coupons
    • Potentially faster delivery on qualifying products

One example reported from screenshots showed a hair product normally priced around $57 being offered for $47 to a Plus member, along with free three-day shipping.

That example tells sellers something important: the membership is not simply about shipping. TikTok is testing whether price + convenience + exclusivity can create a stronger reason to purchase inside TikTok Shop.

What This Means for TikTok Shop Management

For sellers, this is where things get interesting.

If Shop Plus expands, TikTok Shop Management may become less about chasing individual viral moments and more about building products that perform well across the entire customer lifecycle.

A product that gets one viral spike is useful.

A product that gets discovered, purchased, repurchased, and recommended again is much more valuable.

That could put greater emphasis on inventory availability, delivery speed, competitive pricing, product quality, reviews, promotions, and repeat-purchase behavior.

And sellers should start watching their numbers differently.

Instead of only asking, “How much revenue did TikTok generate?”, start asking:

    • How many first-time buyers came back?
    • Which products have the strongest repeat-purchase potential?
    • What happens to conversion when shipping becomes effectively free?

Those metrics could become much more important if TikTok successfully turns Shop Plus members into habitual buyers.

The Bigger Social Commerce Strategy Shift

This is also where Social Commerce Strategy starts becoming more sophisticated.

TikTok originally gave brands something many ecommerce marketplaces struggled to provide: entertainment-driven product discovery.

Now it appears to be adding another layer: loyalty.

Content → Discovery → Purchase → Membership → Repeat Purchase

For brands, that is a much more powerful model than relying on a creator video to generate a one-time sale.

It also means the role of TikTok in the customer journey could expand. A shopper may discover a product through a creator, purchase it through TikTok Shop, receive a membership benefit, and then return weeks later without needing another viral video to convince them.

That is a very different business model from simply selling through social media.

Should Sellers Invest More in TikTok Shop?

I would not treat Shop Plus as a reason to immediately move budget away from Amazon, Walmart, or your DTC channel.

The program is still a test, pricing is not finalized, and TikTok has not publicly confirmed a full rollout.

But I would absolutely treat it as a signal.

If you are already selling on TikTok Shop, now is a good time to identify your products with the strongest repeat-purchase potential and start tracking customer behavior more closely.

TikTok is also already experimenting with Product Subscriptions, allowing select sellers to offer repeat-purchase discounts of 5%, 10%, 15%, or 20% on eligible products. That makes Shop Plus particularly interesting because TikTok appears to be building multiple mechanisms around repeat purchasing, rather than relying only on one-off promotions.

For brands working with a Global Ecommerce Accelerator, this is exactly the kind of platform shift worth watching early.

Because if TikTok can turn its enormous discovery engine into a membership-driven shopping habit, sellers may eventually need to think about TikTok less like a social channel and more like a full marketplace.

And that changes how a Global Ecommerce Accelerator should evaluate the channel: not just by how many products go viral, but by how effectively TikTok can generate profitable, repeat customers.

The smartest Global Ecommerce Accelerator approach may be to test the channel now, measure repeat purchase behavior, and build the operational foundation before Shop Plus becomes a mainstream expectation.
